About us
Country Laine is designed and made in New Zealand. The label was first started in the 1960’s with Barker Textiles Ltd and was used in their woollens range. Laine being the French name for Wool.
Textile Creations have resurrected this label manufacturing a Merino collection of woollen garments along with their Merino Laine label manufacturing blankets, throws and accessories. 100%of the collection is crafted inhouse within our Auckland factory. During the design and production consideration of the environmental impact, aesthetic and functionality are imperative.
Textile Creations began in the ‘70’s as Neil’s Knitwear, in the basement of our family home in Auckland. With just a couple of knitting machines, we made yarn collars for T-shirts, and the business grew quickly. By the late ‘80s, we were making as many as 120,000 collars a month. As the years went on, we diversified into manufacturing hats and scarves and custom fabrics for clients, and became specialists in creating Merino garments, blankets and accessories for fashion designers and retailers.
Today, the business is owned by the second generation of the Cremer family, Gary and Jo Cremer. We take care of everything in house, from sampling knitwear through to creating high-end, bespoke final ranges, ready to be stocked in stores. We are known for our personal service, high quality workmanship and collaborative relationships. We’re discreet and confidential and add our decades of experience and knowledge to every project we work on.
Jo’s also has had a background within the Textile Industry starting with her Grandfather Bert Barker starting Barker & Pollock in 1936 and then moving on to his own wholesale company Barker Textiles Ltd and George Smith Textiles Ltd. Her father John Barker continued with the Company later to be known as Amtex Holdings Ltd which included their Knits range GS Knits, finally selling the Company in 1999. During this time the Barker family setup and ran their own Knitting Mill – Knit Tech Ltd.
